Primary Function:

The HVAC Technician will install, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems on the campus of Hanover College.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain HVAC units in residential, commercial, or industrial buildings on and around the Hanover College campus.
  • Install and maintain ductwork throughout the College's buildings. 
  • Install and repair thermostats, sensors, controls (DDC), and motors. Wires components to electrical power source.
  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure they operate properly.
  • Clean air handling units, checks fan/blower CFM, checks temperature of bearings, tests motors for amperage, voltage, and RPMs.
  • Timely inspect and troubleshoot problems with existing HVAC units either directly or indirectly with assistance from others.
  • Install replacement parts on existing HVAC units.
  • Communicate with employees and vendors on HVAC needs, issues, etc.
  • Comply with College and industry safety policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Promote a positive image of Hanover College and represent the College in accordance with the College's mission, principles, and strategic plan.
  • Support and is an advocate for the College's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, goals, and mission.
  • Perform / complete other projects and tasks assigned by (supervisor).

Qualifications:

I.     Education, Certifications, Training & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • EPA 608 Refrigerant Certification required
  • Vocational/technical school training or apprenticeship required
  • A minimum two years of related experience preferred

II.   Skills, Competencies, Abilities

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment
  • Ability to use power and hand tools
  • Ability to use thermometers, pressure gauges, and other testing devices to evaluate HVAC system
  • Ability to read operation and repair manuals for HVAC systems
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Excellent mechanical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary for customer and vendor interactions
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Computer experience with Microsoft products a plus 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Physically able to work on HVAC units.
  • Will be required to work in settings with extreme cold or extreme heat, depending on time of year.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, crawling, or climbing ladders.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
