Founding Dean, School of Veterinary Medicine

Hanover College is looking for an experienced leader to be the Founding Dean of our School of Veterinary Medicine. The Founding Dean will establish an innovative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program designed to increase access to veterinary education using strategies such as distributed clinical training and hybrid course delivery.  The Dean serves as the chief academic and executive officer of the School and will work with College leadership to chart a visionary course for veterinary education.

Position Responsibilities

  • Secure regional and initial professional program accreditation and maintain regulatory compliance associated with the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council of Education (COE), including implementation of College policies and procedures, and compliance with regulatory and educational education accreditation standards;
  • Create and foster communication, collaboration, and teamwork, shared governance, and transparency to promote a culture of integrity and mutual respect;
  • Develop and maintain a contemporary and evidence-based DVM curriculum that meets accreditation standards and achieves program goals and expected outcomes;
  • Support DVM leadership team efforts in Admissions, Research, Curriculum, Clinical Education, Student Affairs, and Operations;
  • Provide faculty and staff with mentorship and regular evaluations, to include an organized professional development plan in the areas of teaching, research, and service;
  • Plan and administrate the DVM Program budget and financial resources to support the current and anticipated program needs, to include academic and clinical education, faculty, facilities, and equipment needs;
  • Plan and conduct DVM School faculty meetings;
  • Recruit faculty for the DVM School;
  • Provide recommendations on appointment, reappointment, promotion and tenure of faculty in accordance with the Hanover College System for Faculty Rank;
  • Oversee implementation of the learning management system, faculty instructional needs, and instructional technology needs of the program, students, faculty and staff;
  • Assist DVM students in academic advisement, monitoring academic progress, evaluating and investigating Program complaints;
  • Oversee Program assessment in collaboration with the College and other graduate programs;
  • Collaborate with Hanover graduate Program Directors (academic calendars, policies and procedures, College and program resources);
  • Serve on executive, planning, and standing committees at the College as directed by the Associate Provost;
  • Represent the DVM School to Hanover College, the community, and the profession of veterinary medicine.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned veterinary degree (DVM);
  • Senior faculty rank (Associate Professor or higher), with experience consistent with Hanover College system for designated faculty rank;
  • Proven skills as an effective, innovative, and collaborative leader gained through serving in an academic leadership position requiring strong administrative, financial management, and strategic planning skills;
  • Experience in distance education, learning management systems, instructional design, and technologies;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting veterinary medicine;
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in the areas of scholarship (Ph.D. or equivalent) or board certification within veterinary specialty.
